Tipped Chilli Cook-Off

Wow – I think I’m broken – I think I’ve completely overloaded my fun and awesomeness receptors or whatever. This weekend Tipped organised a Chilli Cook-Off and it fucking went off! 8 chilli cooks went head to head in a taste off at the Mucky Pup – the level of competition was insane – every chilli tasted amazing and most of them had very unique and distinct flavours.

Anyway everyone got to vote for their favorite and in the end the lovely Helen Graves of Food Stories emerged victorious.

However this was far from the end of the festivities – I built a couple of pinatas, one of which was a Sarah Palin pinata so we all squashed outside into the garden, necked a bunch of tequila and set about hitting boxes.

The Palin pinata was much more sturdy than we had previously thought so it was necessary for the Chilli Wizard to set fire to her!

We then all headed back inside where the Chilli Wizard DJ’d awesome old hair metal and cock rock and we danced until we fell over.

Thanks to Tiki Chris and Helen for the photos. I took some more photos here.

Tipped Chilli Cook Off (with added mixtape)

So Tipped are having a Chilli Cook Off on Saturday 25th October at The Mucky Pup in Islington. If you’ve never been to a Chilli Cook Off then I’ll explain – a bunch of people cook chillis and then you taste them all, rate them and then prizes are awarded – its pretty simple and a good excuse to drink beers, chat to people and listen to awesome music. Amongst others people cooking chilli will be awesome Mark Hadfield and the epicurial (is that right?) Helen Graves. Not only am I looking forward to tasting chilli I’m also looking forward to playing some nice music alongside Charlie Gower and my friends Tom and Gill who are both AWESOME but don’t have blogs. Anyway I’m that excited that I made a mix to celebrate – hope you like it.

Nice To Meet You

A while ago I went to a talk at the RSA on the Future of Travel, as usual it was awesome and this guy John Adams spoke a lot of wisdom. One thing that stuck with me was a point he made about people who use the internet. He basically dicussed the idea that whilst the internet allows us to connect with people all over the globe from the comfort of our arm chairs, those who engage with social media are more likely or as likely to travel as those that don’t. The example he used was people playing poker online and that people that play poker online regularly are more likely to travel somewhere to attend a poker match or meetup with online poker friends in the real world etc etc. I guess the theory is that social media makes us more social and therefore more likely to meet up on the real world.

I think about this every time I got to Social Media Cafe AKA Tuttle Club which has now moved from the Coach and Horses in Soho to the ICA (which has had a nice refurb). Its essentially a room full of internet geeks talking about social media but the thing is that not only is everyone friendly and welcoming but it happens every Friday morning and last week there must have been over 50 people attending. This is the thing that strickes me as interesting is that there are so many ‘internet’ networking events, in an industry that is based on helping people ‘connect’ the one thing that everyone wants to do more than anything is meet people in the real world. Lloyd Davis who set up SMC made a nice announcement about the new venue and then introduced Toby Moores who I don’t know but he announced a proposal to create a network of networks – essentially getting all the different groups to meet up at once. It sounds like an awesome idea.

He didn’t mention whether likemind would be invited – if you don’t know likemind its a monthly meetup of often digitally orientated creative types ranging from planners, illustrators, video people, writers and even a few poets. I’m one of the hosts along with the delectable Jamie Coomber. Its the third Friday of the month (that means this Friday) at Cafe Boheme in Soho and it kicks off at 8.30 so you have plenty of time to still get to work. Anyway that was a bit rambling, sorry, trying to get back into this blogging lark.

Out of Hibernation

Hello folks – wooooooaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh *yawns* *stretches arms* what day is it? What month is it? Well I’m out of hibernation finally. Ooooaahahhhhaha *rubs leg*

Ok so I’m gonna be blogging again but a lot has happened over the past few months so I’m gonna be blogging about different stuff from now on I think – I’m now working over at Tipped as a community manager which is mondo awesome. I’ve started cooking proper food so I’ll be documenting that sort of stuff. I’ve pretty much stopped wearing trainers so I might be blogging about shoes. I probably won’t ever blog about how awesome Twitter is and how it really compliments other social medias – ugh boring. anyway Blip is the new Twitter everyone knows that. Um I’m also gonna blog a bit about life shifts, I don’t know what they’re properly called but I’m 30 next year and I’ve noticed a lot of shifts in the way I perceive life and stuff so expect a few ‘why the fuck do people go clubbing when they could stay at home with a good book’.
